Travis and Scoop's Race Day is the tenth episode (ninth episode to be aired on the BBC) of the first series.
Plot
While Scoop and Roley are busy fixing a road, they see Travis and Spud resting, as the scarecrow states they're having a day off. However, Farmer Pickles comes in and sternly tells Spud and Travis to get to work. Later on, Scoop and Roley have a rest, when Travis and Spud come in and mock the machines. Scoop and Travis soon get into a debate on who is the fastest, so they decide to have a race after Spud tells them to prove it. Travis is then worried as he isn't the fastest tractor, as it is described by Farmer Pickles that he is the fastest talker he's ever had, much to Spud's annoyance.
Scoop soon arrives back at the Yard and tells Bob all about the race he is having with Travis. Eventually, Bob and Muck prepare for the racecourse. Meanwhile, Spud is training Travis, but it doesn't go well. Spud wants Travis to win, so he tries some sneaky sabotage with obstacles to keep Scoop back. After Scoop wins, Spud complains about Travis's loss, when his sack of obstacles falls over and everyone find out he has cheated. The scarecrow doesn't get away clean, however, and everyone present ends up laughing after he stumbles into a pond.

- This episode is sometimes incorrectly listed as the first episode of Series 1, despite not being the first in both production order and broadcast order.
- Scoop is faster in speed compared to Travis, even if Spud tried to slow him down.
- This episode marks the first time Bob and Spud make an angry face.
- Spud hiding in the rubbish bin in the scenes of this episode may be a reference to Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street.
- In the UK dub, Spud calls Travis "stupid" while in the US dub he refers to Travis by his name. This was probably due to political correctness.
- This episode would have been more appropriate to include on Scoop's Favorite Adventures (2004) compared to Mr. Ellis' Exhibition (Series 7) as Scoop only plays a minor role in that episode.
- This episode could have also been released on a "Travis' Favorite Adventures" release if one had been made.
- This episode was paired with Travis Paints the Town (Series 1) when it first premiered in North America and Latin America.

- In one of the more notable physical gags in the original series, Scoop moves his front wheels like running legs after Spud's traffic light turns green before Travis passes him. More gags of this caliber appear later on in the last series of the 2015 reboot.
- This is the first of eight episodes where the word "stupid" is said (albeit it is only said in the UK dub). Goofs
- Bob's tape measure disappears when he leaves with Muck.
- In addition, his tape measure is missing from his toolbelt when he and Muck are preparing the race course.
- When Spud chuckles to Travis before the race begins, the edge of the sky backdrop is visible.
- During the scene where Wendy chanted Scoop to catch up Travis, Bird pops up for a split second on the top right corner.
- After Scoop wins, Spud's mouth does not move.
- When everyone laughs at Spud after he falls into the pond at the end of the episode, Muck's eyes are wonky.
