The fourth series premiered in the UK on Nick Jr. (UK and Ireland) in February 2001. This series premiered on the BBC between 19 September – 5 December 2001 with being re-shown on CBeebies in 2002. In the US, the fourth series premiered between 01 February 2001 – 14 March 2002 on Nick Jr. (US block) and was later re-shown on Noggin, Sprout and Qubo. In Australia, the fourth series first premiered between 3–19 September 2001 on the ABC Kids block.

A special was also released on home video on 22 October 2001 for the UK and on September 30, 2003 for North America.

Bob and Scoop discover some old bones in a ditch at Farmer Pickles' field. While Bob is out at the museum, Spud persuades Scoop to see some bigger bones that he found. Mr. Ellis thinks that a stegosaurus skeleton was found, but some of its bones are missing.

A rainwater tank is being put up next to Farmer Pickles' barn. While Bob is not around, Spud makes Lofty lift the tank into place. But instead of landing properly, it rolls down a hill and smashes a wooden boat for Wendy's nephew.

Bob is busy refurbishing the bandstand on which Farmer Pickles is set to conduct. But when Travis loses the sheet music, it appears that the show will have to be cancelled. But Spud starts to make paper planes with it. Only when Bob introduces a new band - The Machines - and the sheet music if found, albeit in paper plane form, the day is saved and the concert goes ahead.
